My exhibition work “Hide Myself Within My Flower”is an exploration of everyday moments, captured with watercolor and Indian ink. Using traditional Chinese painting techniques I learned as a child, I focus on fragments like flowers — simple, yet full of meaning. There’s no draft or layering here; I paint directly to capture fleeting emotions and the passage of time.
After the pandemic, I started to reflect on the philosophies of classical Chinese art, especially how Song dynasty scholars expressed emotions through nature. In today’s world, filled with uncertainty, I find solace in these quiet fragments, offering a brief escape and a sense of balance.
I’ve titled this series after the poems of Emily Dickinson, whose reflections on gardening and flowers resonate deeply with me. Flowers, in their simplicity, can truly speak.
